What can I expect?

Our premier cosmetic dentist at 24th Street Dental Biltmore can expertly apply some of the most realistic inlays and onlays in Phoenix, and while both use the same porcelain or composite materials to fix your teeth, each are used for specific purposes.

In simplest terms, inlays are used to fill cavities in the tooth. Sometimes this is the biting surface of your tooth, other times it’s on the side. Onlays fit on top of the tooth to re-shape the pointy cusps your molars need to better masticate (chew) your food.

Our dentist will carefully examine the damaged tooth, and X-rays will be used to investigate further for tooth decay not seen by the naked eye. A mold is taken of your mouth to ensure the most accurate replacement is created.

If any prep work is needed, such as clearing decay or removing an old filling, your teeth will be sufficiently numbed. Expect to wear a temporary piece while the lab constructs your new onlay. Go easy on your teeth until the permanent one can be applied!

Your second visit

Now it’s time to for your dentist to carefully place your inlay/onlay, and you will have the opportunity to discuss comfort, placement, etc. Once you are both satisfied, a permanent bond will be used to strongly cement the inlay/onlay.

Avoid hard foods for the first week or so, but otherwise you can care for your teeth as per usual, such as brushing and flossing; we also recommend mouthwash to kill the bacteria that can cause bad breath.

You’re wearing the most professional dental inlays and onlays in Phoenix, but should you suffer an accident please call 24th Street Dental Biltmore so we can quickly assist you.
